He also knew that his mom was working really hard to fix the big problem. He feels secure and is adjusting to life in care. Since parents don’t always get their problems fixed, I liked the reality of Jaden Goes to Foster Care. The idea behind foster care is to provide a temporary home for children just while the biological parent works on their issues and that is conveyed beautifully in this book. The biological mom helps Jaden feel more at home with the foster mom, and the foster mom helps the mom. I know in reality this is not always the case or recommended, but the book addresses it. It shows that relationships between foster parents and biological parents are possible. I enjoyed this book as an adult and someone going into foster parenting as well. In a very child-friendly way, it explains why Jaden is being taken away from his mom and shares with us the thoughts that are going through his mind while trying to adjust. The story is told in 3rd person and starts when Jaden is making cookies with his birth mom and how that tradition is one that bridges the biological and foster care family together.

Jaden Goes to Foster Care is an excellent children’s book that takes you through Jaden’s story of being in foster care. It clearly illustrates the purpose of foster care and of this great book! *Tip* Make sure you read the beautiful letter to the parents at the beginning of the book.
